Jason Graves’ iconic, two-time BAFTA-winning Dead Space score returns in the 2023 remake, anchoring the game’s terrifying atmosphere with the dissonant orchestral textures that defined contemporary horror in games.
His score draws heavily on the 20th-century avant-garde orchestral technique known as aleatoric writing (extended techniques, dissonance, controlled chaos). He gave players experimental instructions, such as random notes, fast gestures, unstable textures, and non-traditional performance technique, to create organic, unpredictable, and physically threatening manifestations.
